Changes to ACTA Membership Categories for 2008

The newly developed Membership Growth and Services National Sub-committee, whilst in the process of surveying a sample of clubs to follow up members who did not continue their membership for this year, became aware some members were not rejoining because they were not so much interested in competition shooting, but more interested in mid-week shooting.  They also expressed a desire to remain members of the ACTA and of course their own club.
This preference was also confirmed by the ACTA office staff from the interaction with members over recent times.  It did not come as any surprise based on the changing age profile of our membership.  After consideration of these factors, some time line issues and a perusal of membership categories in other countries, ATA (US) and the CPSA (UK) a vote was taken by the National Management Board to change the existing Club Only category create a New Start membership.
A brief overview of these two categories is explained below for your information, it is most important that members understand that this is the commencement of an ongoing review of our membership categories to best reflect the needs of our membership, your comments during 2008 will provide the ACTA with important feedback for future consideration.

Attention WA Juniors

Clause 47, (NSW) Firearms Regulation 2006 allows for the interstate recognition of minors permits, however the clause only relates to those minors who are the holder of the equivalent of a minors' firearm permit issued under the law in force in their  state or territory.  As Western Australia do not issue minors permit, this clause is irrelevant.   Therefore, any minor who wishes to participate in any competition in NSW must complete the application form and provide the following additional information to support their application:

  • Proof of identity - Certified copy of a birth certificate, passport or certificate of citizenship, or Official student card. (one doc only reqd)
  • Provide a history of firearms use eg: letter from club detailing experience of firearm at club, previous shooting comps etc.
  • Provide details of the firearm/s that will be used by the minor whilst in NSW
  • Provide details of where the firearm/s will be stored whilst in NSW, (club armoury)

NSW Firearms Minor's Permit Application

There will be a one off cost of $75 to be sent with the permit application.  The permit is then valid till the minor turns 18. There is no need to complete the NSW Firearms Safety Training Course if a history of firearms use can be provided.
