Club Coaches
- Coach the basic fundamentals of shooting technique to club level athletes
If you are interested in becoming a coach, working with individuals and small groups at beginner and club level, you will need to complete the following steps:
Step 1
Contact your State Association Coaching Director/Coordinator and find out whent he next coaching course will be held nearest to you.
Step 2
You will be required to do a course run over two (2) days. The format will be to have the majority of the theory on the first day and then on the second day to have the practical assessment in conjunction with a club open day or zone coaching clinic. Similarly these club open days or coaching clinics would be an ideal time for reassessment of existing coaches.
Step 3
Accreditation for Club Coach is run on competencies and the attendees need to meet the requirements of these whilst under supervision of a qualified assessor.
A Club Coach will need to be able to demonstrate their ability to meet these competencies:
- Teach shooters to shoot in a safe manner
- Instruct shooters regarding appropriate conduct on the range
- Teach the basic shooting techniques of clay target shooting to a beginner
- Explain the roles and ethical responsibilities of the coach
- Develop strategies to work with parents, officials and sports administrators
- Plan and review coachign sessions for beginners
- Assess and manage the risks of coaching
- Safely conduct safe and fun training sessions
- Utilise a rang eof communication, teaching and behaviour management strategies to help athletes learn basic skills and tactics
- Cater for the physical and social development of athletes
Recognised Prior Learning (RPL)
If you have been coaching for awhile and are able to prove that you can meet the list of competencies above then you may be eligible for RPL. There is an RPL form and the competencies on the form need to be achieved and evidence provided to a qualified assessor. Evidence can be written, video, photos, evaluations and observation.
Once accredited with the Australian Sports Commission, you will be registered as a Club Coach for four (4) years. You will be supplied with an identification card.
Renewal
As your four (4) years are due to expire, you will need to be re-assessed. You will be reissued with a new identification card.
